The Rise of Coffee Club

These were my expectations for expansion, according to the beginning of the year:  over doubled capacity for drinks (10-14 cups), an apprentice to take over when I leave, an expanded consumer base, and an expanded variety of drinks.
I've invested much in equipment: I have a thermos to hold any coffee in pending, cups numbering 10 to date, counting not the few I've lost, a water heater, and a French press (donated Generously by Joey Ryan). I have given a few people basic training on a good press of coffee. My official apprentice, in particular, has taken the initiative to experiment and develop his own drinks; various combinations of tea, coffee, chocolate, and the occasional fruit. I now offer Green Tea, Lipton Yellow Tea, Mocha, and Hot Chocolate "Coffee Club Style". To  reach out to the widest consumer base I could, whilst retaining an amicable atmosphere for conversation, I made it a point to serve beverages daily, during both lunch and p-block.
Looking back on the year; coffee club has indeed grown and expanded. To think that only last school year, it consisted of 5-6 people, serving said amount a day. Looking at the past three and a half weeks (records tallied), I see that I serve around 20 drinks a day, 15 of which, on average, are coffee based. My Busiest day to date, I recall, had me serving 30 cups in coffee alone (not counting tea and chocolate). I have expanded my customer base, from almost exclusively upper classmen, to High School Students of all ages, and a few teachers as well (Mr. Burnett and a handful of his odd day study hall consistently). In terms of setting up an amicable atmosphere, I say the unofficial club is a success. There is usually a good flow of conversation amongst my student members during lunch, thought there are still quiet days. An added bonus was my participation in Westward bound, as a Coffee server, and Coffee Club's participation in Middle School Restaurant Week. I have explored the possibility of collaborating with the Mother of a student, Sean Young, in having her a supplier of Coffee Club's Chocolate drinks, through Sean.
In terms of succession, several measures have either been enacted or plan to be thus enacted; I have instructed Jeremy Leung, Ryan Sit and a few other members in the basics of a good pot of Coffee. Further training and instruction would be given subsequently, upon either the solid decision of my successor, or upon the initiative of the trainees. I have decided to leave most of my supplies to the care of the one who would succeed me, for the use of the future Coffee Club. In terms of finance, a proposal has been drawn to have members bring in supplies every so often; in a roster of 15, one bag of coffee every three weeks per person; Creamer and sugar would be provided by my successor; extras via extra donation, or at his/her discretion. This was decided in order to alleviate the great gap in finances that are to occur upon my departure. My proposed successor plans to have Coffee Club be a bit more explorative in regards to the flavors of its drinks, encouraging an adventurous perspective in the tastier things in life.

I've learned that making a lasting difference takes time, a great amount of time, and persistent effort against decent odds. It requires sacrifice on one's part, and it's fruit is not always seen immediately.
Couldn't take too many photos: quite busy, as Patrons come and go :P

Westward Bound...

Had fun working at the grind :)

Since I was in charge of "Americanos", and because I worked out of a litre thermos I kept full, I took the liberty to see to the servers every now and then. Aside from shooting the breeze between orders, I gave them the rough idea to how to work my press.

On the second night, when things really got busy, I helped out where I could.

It was fun being part of the team; an overall enjoyable experience. Granted that Mr. Wilson and Paul took the Brunt of the orders (Americanos were a small proportion to hot chocolates and lattes), I did my best, and served with a smile.

Short update for today (25 November, 2013)

Today was one of my busiest days :); around 30 cups served (of coffee at least)!

I want to take a minute to appreciate and praise my apprentice, Jeremy Leung.

He has taken the initiative to develop a pre-order system and has opened a Facebook group for the club, and took the initiative to pre-fill the thermos this morning. I think I'll be leaving coffee club in very good hands :)

This way, we can still cater to those who have previous commitments.

Update on progress so far...

The club is going nicely underway:

Improving from last year's suggestions:

- I have expanded my storage area, and increased my coffee making capacity; On a good day, I can expect to make 10-14 cups, easily double what I was making the year previous.

-I have Taken on an apprentice to cement the legacy of the club

-I have expanded my consumer base to include teachers

- I have begun to offer tea, and soon, hot chocolate

Given a free block, I manage to talk to my clients some more, hopefully making them feel more welcome

Coffee club has been offered a place in Middle school Restaurant week, Updates on that soon to come

Coffee club: Condensed

I started this school year with a jar of instant coffee, sugar, and creme...

Now I have two small 16oz. manual drip makers, several mugs, (with a quick drip maker for lighter brews)

(two of these to be exact)

While receiving refill packages like this or greater (with confectioneries on the side):
( my latest refill package is near triple this-sans milk)

And almost every day since the beginning , my regulars (Shing Chi Ho, Sam Thoo, Gideon Woo, and soon after, Jason Liu) have been faithfully stopping by the art room (or somewhere nearby) for a cup, sometimes bringing in a friend:

Every now and then I did an extra secession after school:

I can honestly say that the project is a success in my eyes:
- I had managed to develop a certain taste and have had my customers critique said taste
-I have done so Regularly on a near daily basis
-I have improved my social skills somewhat, providing an environ for genuine conversation and encouraging my regulars to slow down and enjoy the coffee (and perhaps the beauties of the moment)

But most of all,
I've brought smiles to peoples faces (and possibly prevented them from a detention or two for nodding off)

To improve, I would need to:
-expand my storage area (the bottom half of next years senior locker should do nicely)
-increase my coffee-making capacity (I've looked into borrowing Mr. Hogshead's old maker)
- Stress the importance of slowing down and enjoying the coffee

Perhaps I could,
-Work in conjunction with the freshmen and sophomores to start an en masse, on campus delivery service once a week, (perhaps providing for their Mad projects)

-Expand into confectioneries and hot Chocolate, to establish a true "Closet Cafe"?

- Take on an apprentice (or apprentices) to cement the club's legacy and survival

-Apply for official recognition as a club and perhaps have long jackets made
